| Botox for
forehead lines, frown lines & crow's feet |
 |
Botox is a safe and effective way to treat facial wrinkles
such as crow's feet and frown lines. Considered one of the
most popular non-invasive cosmetic procedures, Botox relaxes
the targeted muscles of the face and thus eliminates the
overlying wrinkles and fine lines typically associated with
negative expressions such as worry, anger, and fatigue.

FAQs: Show/Hide
Q: WHAT IS BOTOX COSMETIC?
A: Botox Cosmetic is an FDA-approved injectable
solution that minimizes facial wrinkles in the areas where
applied. When injected into a muscle, Botox temporarily
prevents the release of the chemical messenger that contracts
the muscle. Popular areas of treatment include forehead
lines, frown lines and crow's feet. Botox is also used
to achieve a non-surgical brow lift. Other applications
include vertical lines around the mouth, sad lines at
the corners of the mouth and signs of aging around the
neck (necklace lines).
Q: IS IT SAFE?
A: Botox is a purified protein which is extracted
from a naturally occurring bacteria and processed under
strict pharmaceutical manufacturing guidelines. It is
FDA-approved.
Q: HOW LONG DOES THE PROCEDURE TAKE?
A: The procedure usually takes less than 15 minutes.
After an initial consultation, patients typically receive
treatment on the same day. There is no down-time involved
and patients can resume most of their normal activities
immediately.
Q: DO THE INJECTIONS HURT?
A: To ensure patient comfort, Dr. Cheng uses the
smallest-gauge needles and syringes available for injection.
Most patients describe the sensation as a "tiny pin
prick."
Q: HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO WAIT TO SEE RESULTS?
A: Results are typically seen within 3-5 days after
the treatment. Some patients may not realize full benefits
for up to two weeks.
Q: I ONLY HAVE LINES AROUND MY EYES WHEN I SMILE.
BUT I'M AFRAID THAT THE LINES WILL GET DEEPER. SHOULD
I CONSIDER BOTOX?
A: Thousands of people use Botox to prevent lines
from forming or from becoming more noticeable on the forehead
and around the eyes. As we "exercise" these
muscles by smiling and frowning, we are essentially strengthening
the muscles of facial expression. These muscles then pull
down on the overlying skin, causing lines to form. Routine
administration of Botox prevents lines overlaying these
facial muscles from forming, which diminishes the signs
of aging.

| Dermal
fillers to soften deeper folds and acne scars on the face. |
 |
Dermal fillers are designed to soften deeper
folds on the face, such as nasolabial folds (the "parenthesis"
from the corners of your nose extending down to the corners
of your mouth) and marionette lines (the lines from the corners
of your mouth extending down to your chin).
Certain dermal fillers are also ideal for defining and
adding volume to the lips, accentuating cheek bones and
restoring volume to the mid-face region. Dermal fillers
are also used to soften vertical lines around the mouth
and can even be used to soften the appearance of humps on
the bridge of the nose.
Dermal fillers are entirely different from Botox, which
relaxes muscles of facial expression but does not "fill
in" existing lines and wrinkles. Studies show that
combining Botox with dermal fillers offers superior and
more complete correction with longer lasting results.

| Restylane |
 |
Restylane and Perlane are FDA approved dermal filler that
restore volume and fullness to the skin. Its main composition
is hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the
body that provides both hydration and volume to the skin.
When injected into the skin, Restylane and Perlane can correct
moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds and enhance
volume in areas such as the lips and mid-face region.

Q: WHAT IS RESTYLANE?
A: The composition of Restylane is hyaluronic acid,
which is a naturally occurring substance in the human
body. Restylane has been used worldwide since 1996. There
is virtually no risk of allergic reaction to Restylane
and therefore no advance allergy screening is necessary.
Q: HOW IS PERLANE DIFFERENT FROM RESTYLANE?
A: Both products are cosmetic dermal fillers made
from hyaluronic acid, which replace volume and soften
lines on the face. The difference is in the consistency
of the material. Perlane's consistency is thicker than
Restylane, making it more suitable for correction of deeper
lines and restoration of volume in the mid-face.
Q: HOW DO I CHOOSE BETWEEN RESTYLANE AND PERLANE?
A: To understand your goals and expectation and
to fully answer your questions, Dr. Cheng provides a personal,
one-on-one consultation with each patient before conducting
any procedure. By evaluating the information obtained
during your consultation, she will recommend the product
that is right for you.
Q: WHERE CAN RESTYLANE OR PERLANE BE USED ON THE FACE?
A: Restylane has been used by physicians to treat
and soften a variety of lines and wrinkles on the face.
Popular treatment areas include nasolabial folds, marionette
lines, forehead frown lines and vertical lines around
the mouth. Other applications include defining and adding
volume to the lips and softening the tear trough lines
(diagonal lines from the inner corners of the eyes to
the cheeks).
Q: HOW LONG DOES RESTYLANE OR PERLANE LAST?
A: Results from Restylane or Peroane usually last
from six to nine months, depending on the area(s) treated.
Evidence does show that having a follow-up or touch-up
treatment before the product has fully dissipated not
only requires less product than the initial treatment,
it also enhances the lasting effect.
Q: WHAT SHOULD I DO TO PREPARE FOR RESTYLANE INJECTIONS?
A: Avoid using aspirin, NSAIDS (ibuprofen and similar
products), St. John's Wort, high doses of vitamin E and
Omega 3 fatty acid supplements for 2-3 days prior to treatment,
as these may increase bruising or bleeding at the injection
site(s). Arnica (an herbal supplement) taken on the day
of the procedure can help minimize localized bruising
and swelling. Also, please inform Dr. Cheng of a history
of cold sores so that a prescription for antiviral medication
can be provided to prevent an outbreak, an occasional
side effect of injections.
Q: HOW LONG DOES THE PROCEDURE TAKE?
A: After an initial consultation, the procedure
takes only 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the area(s)
treated. Dr. Cheng ensures the comfort of each patient
by anesthetizing the area(s) to be treated.
Q: HOW QUICKLY CAN I GET BACK TO MY DAILY ACTIVITIES?
A: Most patients feel comfortable resuming their
normal activities immediately after treatment with Restylane
or Perlane.

| Juvederm
Ultra/Juvederm Ultra Plus |
 |
Juvéderm is a smooth gel made of hyaluronic acid-a
naturally occurring substance in the body that helps to
add volume and hydration to the skin. Juvéderm injectable
gels instantly restore your skin's volume and smooth away
facial wrinkles and folds such as smile lines (nasolabial
folds-the creases that run from the bottom of your nose
to the corners of your mouth). While results will vary,
Juvéderm Ultra and Ultra Plus typically last for
up to a year, depending on the area(s) treated.
Juvederm Ultra Plus is a "thicker" version of
Juvederm Ultra, ideal for deeper lines that require more
correction.
FAQs: Show/Hide
Q: WHAT IS JUVEDERM ULTRA?
A: The composition of Juvederm Ultra is hyaluronic
acid, which is a natural substance that already exists
in the human body. Therefore, there is virtually no risk
of allergic reaction to the substance and hence no advance
allergy screening is required.
Q: WHERE CAN JUVEDERM ULTRA BE USED ON THE FACE?
A: Juvederm Ultra is used by physicians to treat
and soften a variety of lines and wrinkles on the face.
Popular treatment areas include nasolabial folds, marionette
lines, forehead frown lines and vertical lines around
the mouth. Other applications include enhancing the appearance
and fullness of the lips and softening the tear trough
lines (diagonal lines from the inner corners of your eyes
to the cheeks).
Q: HOW LONG DOES JUVEDERM ULTRA LAST?
A: Corrections with Juvederm Ultra generally last
for up to twelve months, depending on the area(s) treated.
Evidence shows that follow-up or "touch-up"
treatments before the product has fully dissipated not
only requires less product than the initial treatment,
but also enhances the longevity of results.

or bleeding at injection site(s). Arnica (an herbal supplement)
taken on the day of the procedure can help minimize localized
bruising or swelling. Also, please notify Dr. Cheng of
a history of cold sores so that a prescription for antiviral
medication can be provided to prevent an outbreak, an
occasional side effect of injections.
Q: HOW LONG DOES THE PROCEDURE TAKE?
A: After an initial consultation, the procedure
takes only 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the area(s)
treated. Dr. Cheng applies a topical anesthetic or dental
block to ensure your comfort during the procedure.
Q: HOW QUICKLY CAN I GET BACK TO MY DAILY ACTIVITIES?
A: Most patients feel comfortable resuming their
normal activities immediately after treatment with Juvederm.

| Radiesse |
 |
FDA-approved Radiesse provides the longest-lasting
results of all dermal filler offered by Dr. Cheng at NUVEAU
Medical Aesthetics. It is a next-generation dermal filler
that is setting new standards for the correction of facial
lines and wrinkles such as nasolabial folds and the treatment
of lipoatrophy (significant loss of facial fat). In addition,
Radiesse can be used to replace volume in the mid-face region,
accentuate cheek bones, smooth frown lines (the "11's"
between your brows), soften fine lines and wrinkles around
the mouth and to contour the jaw line and chin. Radiesse has
been shown to stimulate the body to generate its own new collagen
in the area(s) where injected, which produces longer asting
results (12 to 18 months).
Radiesse differs from hyaluronic acid dermal fillers (Restylane,
Perlane and Juvederm) in its composition and the longevity
of its results. Made of smooth calcium-based microspheres
(think of tiny particles of calcium) suspended in a water-based
gel carrier, Radiesse is injected into the skin through
a simple and minimally invasive procedure. The result is
immediate, visible improvement of folds and wrinkles, with
results lasting for 12 to 18 months.

| LipoDissolve |
 |
Even with exercises and watching what we
eat, there are some areas on our bodies that just do not respond
to the conventional work-out regimen. LipoDissolve
is a safe, non-surgical method for spot fat reduction, enabling
the physician to target and treat specific areas of fat on
the body. The ingredient injected into targeted areas has
been found to cause fat cells to lyse. The dissolved fat cells
are then metabolized by the body.
LipoDissolve can be used to improve areas such as saddle
bags, love handles, abdominal bulges, under the eye fat
pads, inner and outer thighs, double chin, and arms. Depending
on the areas treated, most patients can see results with
2-4 sessions.
LipoDissolve is ideal for healthy persons of stable weight
who have unwanted, localized fat deposits. Although liposuction
remains the gold standard for reducing large areas of fat
deposit, LipoDissolve has become a popular, affordable,
safe and non-surgical alternative to treat those smaller,
stubborn fatty areas.
